Invest In Your Career–What Are Your Values?

Often we go through life letting experiences and outcomes define who we are. By doing so we sometimes get lost in who we are and what we stand for. It is important that we periodically take inventory of what we believe and value.

Personal core values or morals are ideas and beliefs that form the way we act and behave. Core values also help us distinguish between what is right and wrong. At the end of the day core values define who we are.

One way to visualize personal core values is to think of them as direction headings on a compass. The direction headings are replaced with values we feel are important. We can use our moral compass to reduce the number of bad decisions we make. Before taking the first step towards a goal or vision it would be nice to know if where we are headed is in line with the values on our compass.

Core values are generally developed from members of our family and people we hang out with in school and church. As a result, it is important to be surrounded by supportive people.
